Pickleball - A New Addition to West View Pickleball is a very fast growing sport, combining rules of both tennis and badminton. The strokes are similar to tennis, while scoring rules are like badminton (players only score points when they or their partner serves). Play is on a 20' X 44' court, using racquets similar in size to a larg table tennis paddle, with the a ball being a large wiffle ball. The small paddles and slower balls make Pickleball very easy to pick up - no need for lessons, and most players pick up the game quite nicely on the first day. The pickle ball is only about one third the speed of a tennis ball, so the game is characterized by much longer rallies than tennis. 2 of the wonderful aspects of Pickleball is that the slower speed of the game (compared to tennis) allows players of differing ability levels to be competitive, and the smaller court size promotes more conversation and social interaction. Pickleball can also be a wonderful transition sport after tennis when players begin to have shoulder or knee issues that prevent them from moving on a tennis court easily. We have 5 time slots in which our 3rd tennis court is converted into 1 or 2 Pickleball courts: Play is arranged via email and/or text messaging, so if you are interested, contact us via email at leagues@westviewtennis.com or by phone at (304) 292-4841
